About the position

The Bioinformatics Technical Program Manager (BxPM) plays a crucial role in overseeing the vision, roadmap, execution, operational support, and life cycle management of specific bioinformatics programs. This position is strategically positioned at the intersection of technology, business, and user experience, ensuring that the program aligns with both current and future organizational priorities and goals. The BxPM is tasked with understanding and representing the voice of the customer, which is essential for defining the program's vision and aligning stakeholders around it. In this role, the BxPM will be laser-focused on the conception, execution, implementation, operation, and training associated with the program. This includes negotiating and prioritizing program features and capabilities, promoting a synergistic and collaborative environment among empowered teams, and continuously monitoring the technology and competitive landscapes to ensure the program remains relevant and effective. The BxPM will also be responsible for negotiating pricing for underlying technologies, licenses, or dependencies, while managing the budget for program development and operations. Additionally, the BxPM will manage the program backlog, define or contribute to the definition of user stories, and be accountable for execution by closely collaborating with research, data science, and development bioinformatics teams. Clear communication with the program team and business stakeholders is vital, as is serving as the program expert. The BxPM will work to minimize risks and plan to avoid single points of failure, escalating issues as appropriate to ensure the program's success.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • BS with 5+ years of work experience developing or managing biological software programs, or 3+ years with a Master's Degree, or 1+ years with a Ph.D.
  • 3+ years subject matter expertise in bioinformatics or a specific area of life sciences.
  • 3+ years software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years experience in program management.
