About the position

This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agriculture Research Service, Ruminant Diseases & Immunology Research Unit in Ames, IA. The role involves participating in various phases of the research process by performing technical duties in a laboratory, dairy farm, or greenhouse environment. It is a term, time-limited appointment with an initial duration of no less than 13 months, extendable up to a total of 4 years. The position is open to U.S. Citizens, Nationals, and certain federal employees.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, calibrates, and modifies equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
• Tabulates, statistically analyzes, and summarizes data using personal computers and software packages.
• Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples including dairy samples and supporting records.
• Disposes of waste material both chemical and biological.
• Works directly with livestock on a dairy farm.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
• Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
• Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Must complete a one-year trial period unless previously served.
• Experience in assisting in a research project, collecting or preparing samples, and using automated systems for test and evaluation procedures.

Nice-to-haves
