About the position

This position is for a Biological Science Technician within the Resource Management and Science Division at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The role involves participating in fisheries management activities, ensuring safety protocols, and maintaining field equipment. The job is seasonal, typically from May to November, with an anticipated start date of May 4, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a fisheries team member to accomplish fisheries management activities following standardized protocols.
  • Assist with the operation, maintenance, and repair of field equipment.
  • Submit maintenance and repair schedules and provide detailed supply/equipment needs to the supervisor.
  • Demonstrate proper collection, recording, and handling of fisheries field data.
  • Assist with data entry and editing.
  • Maintain good oral communication with supervisor, fellow crew members, and the public regarding field activities.
  • Encourage safety and operational leadership in all fisheries operations.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Valid driver's license required for operating government vehicles.
  • Must be at least 18 years old or 16 years old with specific educational qualifications.
  • Experience in standardized procedures for sampling stream fish populations and collecting field data.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant fields or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience hiking and walking in mountain streams carrying heavy packs.
  • Knowledge of fishery biology and data management.
