About the position

The Biological Science Technician position involves collecting and analyzing data related to fish ecology and their habitats in streams and rivers. The role requires the use of specialized equipment for sampling and measuring physical and chemical variables, as well as assisting in the development of field and laboratory protocols. The technician will also be responsible for data tabulation and statistical analysis to support research projects.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and identify fishes in streams and rivers.
  • Measure physical and chemical variables in aquatic environments.
  • Calibrate and maintain specialized sampling equipment.
  • Assist in adapting and developing field and laboratory protocols.
  • Tabulate, summarize, and statistically analyze research data.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
  • Successful completion of a background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Completion of a one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
  • Direct Deposit is required for federal payments.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Specialized experience or education as defined for GS-07 or GS-08 levels.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in fish ecology and associated habitats.
  • Knowledge of biological sampling techniques.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis software.
