About The Position
The Mississippi Biologist position at Ducks Unlimited, Inc. (DU) offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the conservation of waterfowl and wetlands in the Mississippi Alluvial Valley, particularly within the Yazoo Basin. As the leading waterfowl and wetland conservation organization, DU is dedicated to enhancing shallow water wetlands, improving water quality, and providing critical habitat for wintering waterfowl. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of professionals and collaborate with various stakeholders, including private landowners, state and federal agencies, and conservation partners, to develop and implement effective restoration projects. In this role, the Mississippi Biologist will be responsible for identifying and developing wetland projects that not only improve water quality but also enhance floodplain capacity in an agriculturally dominated landscape. The position requires a combination of technical and personal skills to manage projects effectively, including budgeting, contract management, and field data collection. The biologist will utilize existing networks of Wetland Reserve Easement (WRE) projects to restore altered hydrology and enhance shallow water areas, ensuring that the projects align with DU's conservation mission. The Mississippi Biologist will also coordinate with various agencies and organizations to evaluate enhancement opportunities and assist with forest management recommendations. The role demands a commitment to documenting progress through annual reports and the ability to perform responsibilities in variable weather conditions and challenging terrains. This position not only offers valuable field experience but also the chance to make a significant impact on conservation efforts in Mississippi.
