About the position

The Biomedical Engineer position at Vanderbilt University Medical Center focuses on monitoring and maintaining pharmacy automation and dispensing equipment, as well as managing data systems related to pharmacy operations. This role involves deploying and upgrading simulation technologies, researching artificial intelligence applications, and ensuring data security and privacy. The engineer will also be responsible for budgeting, purchasing, and providing education on AI systems to staff, contributing to the overall mission of advancing health and wellness through innovative technology and research.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain pharmacy automation and pharmacy dispensing equipment.
  • Responsible for the RSM home delivery/central fill line and dispensing robots maintenance.
  • Deploy, configure, interface and upgrade realistic patient and virtual reality computer based simulators.
  • Research and develop artificial intelligence programs.
  • Design, develop, maintain and repair servers and databases.
  • Assist in all aspects of simulation-related research.
  • Develop, implement and maintain procedures for data security and privacy.
  • Applies and adapts a variety of computational and analysis methods.
  • Utilize various avenues of research by attending in-service training and staff meetings, conferring with other professionals, and reading professional journals.
  • Evaluate and recommend purchase of computer hardware, software, auxiliary equipment in support of programs and research projects.
  • Perform follow-up performance evaluations.
  • Design, test, maintain, and modify computer information systems.
  • Develop specification input/output.
  • Evaluate and establish data processing policies, methods, and procedures.
  • Develop systems for collection of research data.
  • Ensure financial resources are utilized effectively in the area.
  • Prepare budget specific to computer hardware, software programs, office supplies and other expenses.
  • Monitor expenditures against budget.
  • Provide written reports and documentation.
  • Develop and prepare usable data reports coordinating all components of disability evaluation into one whole assessment.
  • Develop outcome predictors, weighing systems for input data, etc.
  • Prepare special reports as requested; perform independent and group clinical and basic research.
  • Provide education in Artificial Intelligence Systems for specified hospital and medical school staff and faculty.
  • Implement a preventative maintenance program with outside contract agencies and internal biomedical engineers.
  • Ensure PM program meets manufacturing and industry standards.
  • Follow-up to ensure program specifications are being met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field.
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in biomedical engineering or a similar role.
  • Experience with pharmacy automation and dispensing equipment.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence and simulation technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets and financial resources effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
