About the position

The Biomedical Engineer I position involves providing engineering skills and conducting research support related to the Combat Casualty Care mission. The role focuses on addressing technology gaps in medical simulation and information sciences, contributing to various projects such as the Semi-Automated Casualty Care System and Augmented Reality technology. The engineer will engage in the development and testing of medical devices, ensuring compliance with FDA regulations, and will contribute to publishable research findings.

Responsibilities

  • Enrich practices, techniques, and knowledge in medical, physiological, and biological sciences.
  • Enhance and ensure the health, safety, and welfare of living systems.
  • Create and improve designs, instrumentation, materials, and medical systems.
  • Assist with the development of standardized testing platforms for research.
  • Develop models using simulators, cadavers, and large animals to test device efficacy.
  • Conduct research to analyze the feasibility and performance of medical equipment.
  • Develop expertise in medical instrumentation for ongoing research.
  • Contribute to at least two publishable research findings annually.
  • Perform data acquisition for clinical applications using programming languages.
  • Conduct image processing and analysis for automated systems.
  • Develop control systems and algorithms for medical applications.
  • Assist with writing patent documentation and submissions.
  • Develop documentation for software and medical devices.
  • Review scientific journal articles related to ongoing projects.
  • Gain knowledge of system requirements for hardware/software developed in CRT6.
  • Assist with software development in accordance with FDA regulations.
  • Assist with the development of automated technology using AI methodologies.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to junior Biomedical Engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum three years of experience in biomedical engineering or clinical environment.
  • Development experience using tools such as MATLAB, CAD, SolidWorks, and FEA simulations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security access and background checks.

  • Strong written communication skills and understanding of Government contracting.
  • Expert computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
