About the position

The Biomedical Engineer I position involves providing engineering skills and conducting research support related to the Combat Casualty Care mission. The role focuses on addressing technology gaps in medical simulation and information sciences, contributing to various projects such as the Semi-Automated Casualty Care System and Augmented Reality Technology. The engineer will engage in the development and testing of medical devices, ensuring safety and efficacy in clinical applications.

Responsibilities

  • Enrich practices, techniques, and knowledge in the medical, physiological, and biological sciences.
  • Enhance and ensure the health, safety, and welfare of living systems.
  • Create and improve designs, instrumentation, materials, diagnostic and therapeutic devices, and medical systems.
  • Assist with the development of standardized testing platforms for research hypotheses.
  • Develop models using simulators/cadavers/large animals to test device efficacy.
  • Conduct research testing the feasibility/design/operation/performance of equipment and systems.
  • Develop expertise in medical instrumentation for ongoing research products.
  • Contribute to at least two publishable research findings each year.
  • Perform data acquisition for clinical applications using programming languages like Python and MATLAB.
  • Conduct image processing and analysis for automated image recognition systems.
  • Develop control systems and algorithms for medical applications.
  • Conduct statistical analysis with various programming languages.
  • Assist with writing patent documentation and submissions.
  • Develop documentation for software and medical devices.
  • Read and review scientific journal articles related to ongoing projects.
  • Gain knowledge of system requirements for hardware/software developed in CRT6.
  • Assist with software development in accordance with FDA regulations.
  • Assist with the development of automated technology using AI methodologies.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to junior Biomedical Engineers.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum three years of experience in biomedical engineering or clinical environment.
  • Development experience using tools such as MATLAB, CAD, SolidWorks, and FEA simulations.
  • Must obtain and maintain necessary security access and/or background checks.
