About the position

The Biomedical Engineer position at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) involves applying engineering expertise to ensure the operational safety and reliability of medical equipment. This role is crucial for supporting clinical and research initiatives, contributing to the mission of ending cancer for life through innovative care and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate mechanical devices using drawings, sketches, and verbal descriptions with hand and power tools.
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, including electrical safety testing on medical device systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, clinicians, and research staff to ensure optimal equipment performance and safety.
  • Maintain and lead assigned medical equipment and hardware, ensuring compliance with safety codes and standards.
  • Document service work, including time, costs, and activities, within the Biomed database.
  • Provide operational safety information and training to clinical staff on equipment usage and safety protocols.
  • Participate in the evaluation of medical devices prior to purchase and assist with installations.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of maintenance, calibration, and testing procedures.
  • Conduct medical device inspection rounds and lead remediations for recalls and safety notices.
  • Implement preventive maintenance schedules and conduct OEM and AEM analysis as necessary.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, electrical, mechanical or biomedical; computer science or related science field.
  • Familiarity with CAD, CAM, and design.
  • Outstanding communication and self-awareness skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Adaptability and resilience to changing research needs.
  • Collaboration and relationship-building skills.
