About the position

The Biomedical Engineer at the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System (NAVAHCS) plays a crucial role in the operations of the Biomedical Engineering program. This position involves providing engineering review, guidance, and development of the Medical Equipment Management Program, ensuring the safety and efficacy of medical instrumentation used in patient care. The incumbent collaborates with medical staff, supports clinical technology, and contributes to the continuing education of clinical staff regarding medical technology and biomedical theory.

Responsibilities

  • Support and conduct a comprehensive medical equipment management program ensuring safety and reliability of devices used in patient care.
  • Assist in the development of an equipment management program at NAVAHCS, including life cycle management of medical equipment.
  • Coordinate and manage NAVAHCS projects requiring Biomedical Engineering expertise.
  • Function as a subject matter expert in biomedical engineering, advising on medical technology and its safety.
  • Evaluate and assess major failure problems of medical equipment and systems.
  • Prepare materials on technical topics, quality assurance reports, and standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate medical device hazard investigations to ensure compliance with safety goals and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with VA and vendor personnel to document maintenance and administrative activities.
  • Manage lifecycle of network equipment for networked medical devices and systems.
  • Implement and plan for new and emerging technologies in medical diagnostics and network management.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution, or certification as a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE).
  • Preferred: Three or more years of experience as a Biomedical Engineer.
  • Knowledge of biomedical engineering principles and practices.
  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and guidelines related to medical technology.

  • Familiarity with medical device safety regulations and compliance standards.
