About the position

The Biomedical Engineer position at AtriCure involves contributing to the research and development of innovative medical devices aimed at treating Afib and related conditions. The role requires a blend of technical skills, knowledge of life sciences, and an understanding of product development methodologies. The engineer will work within multi-disciplinary teams to design, analyze, and test medical devices, ensuring compliance with medical and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, analyze, and test medical devices using various test equipment and instruments.
  • Perform analytical modeling/analysis of new technologies and design implementations to support clinical outcomes.
  • Build prototypes using rapid prototyping methods to test design concepts.
  • Test performance of medical devices using scientific principles, record data, analyze statistically, and present recommendations.
  • Be knowledgeable of surgical techniques, devices, and procedures in a preclinical lab setting.
  • Work with Key Opinion Leaders to collect Voice of Customer data and develop product requirements.
  • Conduct clinical laboratory activities related to new product development, including animal research studies.
  • Analyze, specify, develop, and evaluate the usability of medical devices related to safety and risk mitigation.
  • Provide analysis, testing, and reporting to predict and verify human body responses to designed devices.
  • Contribute to improvements in methods and processes of the product development organization.
  • Generate and document intellectual property.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Life Sciences discipline or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 3 years of experience in biomedical engineering or equivalent field.
  • Solid understanding of anatomy, physiology, and biophysics.
  • Experience with in-vitro and in-vivo lab activities.
  • Knowledge of medical device design and clinical procedure development.
  • Familiarity with Design Controls and experience with FDA QSR 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 13485.
  • Experience conducting and reporting laboratory and animal research studies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with data analysis, problem-solving, and troubleshooting.

Nice-to-haves

  • BS in Biomedical Engineering
  • MS in Engineering or Life Sciences discipline
  • 5 years of experience in biomedical engineering or equivalent field.
  • Excellent demonstrated ability with data analysis, problem-solving, and troubleshooting.
  • Proven track record of generating and documenting intellectual property.
