About the position

The Biomedical Engineer will serve as a staff advisor within the Engineering Service, providing expertise in biomedical engineering principles and practices. This role involves ensuring the safety and compliance of medical equipment, managing personnel functions, and leading various engineering projects related to medical devices. The position requires collaboration with medical staff and vendors to enhance patient care through effective management of medical technology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration of the Medical Equipment Management Program.
  • Ensure that medical equipment in the Medical Center is safe for patients and staff.
  • Assist in personnel functions for the Biomedical Engineering Section, including recruitment, hiring, and training of new staff.
  • Manage a recall and safety alert program for medical devices, including incident investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with requirements from The Joint Commission, IG, SOARS, FDA, and other groups for the Medical Equipment Management Program.
  • Provide leadership for high-performance customer support to medical staff, nurses, and technologists.
  • Represent the Medical Center in meetings with manufacturers and vendors regarding medical devices/systems.
  • Advise on equipment evaluations and provide balanced advice for new acquisitions.
  • Assist in project management for medical device projects, including planning, installation, and training stages.
  • Manage HIPAA and network security issues for medical systems, including backup and disaster recovery.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering from an accredited institution, or Certification as a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) with a bachelor's degree.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical evaluation and background/security investigation.

  • Familiarity with medical equipment management programs.
