The Biomedical Engineer position at the VA Portland Health Care System involves applying engineering principles to investigate and improve medical practices related to living systems. The role includes providing professional engineering support to the Biomedical Engineering Program, which encompasses medical equipment assessment, planning, acquisition, and management. The incumbent will work closely with healthcare technology, ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of sophisticated medical equipment, while supporting the mission of the healthcare system.

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering concepts to investigate problems in living systems.
  • Provide professional engineering support to the Biomedical Engineering Program.
  • Conduct medical equipment and technology assessments.
  • Plan and coordinate the acquisition of medical equipment.
  • Manage medical equipment throughout its lifecycle, from procurement to disposal.
  • Consult with facility management and staff on healthcare technology matters.
  • Support the Chief of the Healthcare Technology Management Section in program operations.
  • Ensure compliance with medical center policies and standards of professional service.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or certification as a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE).
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to pass a urinalysis drug test prior to appointment.
