About the position

As a Biomedical Engineering Technician II at UW Health, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that medical equipment is functioning optimally to support patient care. This position is based at UW Health East Madison Hospital and Eastpark Medical Center in Madison, WI, and operates on a full-time schedule of 100% FTE during day shifts, specifically from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with on-call responsibilities. Your work hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department, providing you with the opportunity to adapt to different situations as they arise. In this role, you will be responsible for performing and recording preventive maintenance on medical equipment through periodic performance checks and measurements. You will diagnose and implement repairs in both shop and critical care settings, including operating rooms, trauma units, emergency rooms, and various other patient care areas. Your ability to respond promptly to equipment issues will be essential in minimizing downtime and ensuring that medical staff have the tools they need to provide excellent patient care. Additionally, you will be tasked with keeping accurate records of all maintenance activities performed on assigned medical equipment. This includes updating the department database with a complete and timely record of service, which is vital for maintaining compliance and operational efficiency. Your contributions will directly impact the quality of care provided to patients, making this position both rewarding and significant.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and record preventive maintenance of equipment through periodic performance checks and measurements.
  • Diagnose and implement repairs both in shop and critical care settings including operating rooms, trauma units, emergency rooms, and various other patient care areas in a timely manner to minimize down time.
  • Keep accurate records of all maintenance activities performed on assigned medical equipment and update the department database of this record of service, completely and promptly.

Requirements

  • Minimum - Associate's degree in Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of related experience would be considered in lieu of degree in addition to experience below.
  • Minimum - One (1) year experience working with biomedical, electrical, electronics, IT, or mechanical equipment.
  • Preferred - Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering.
  • Preferred - Two (2) years' previous experience as Biomedical Engineering Technician or electronics related technical field experience.
  • Minimum - Valid driver's license in the person's state of residence.
  • Must be 21 years of age or have three (3) years of driving experience to operate a Patient/Visitor Vehicle or UW Health Vehicle other than a golf cart or utility terrain vehicle.
  • Preferred - OEM or computer system certifications applicable to UW Health.
