About the position

The Biomedical Service Engineer I is responsible for the installation, maintenance, service, and repair of laboratory equipment and instruments. This role requires a solid understanding of laboratory equipment and automation systems, aiming to enhance the quality of testing by ensuring optimal performance and reducing downtime. The position is designed to prepare the employee for a career in biomedical engineering within a dynamic and diverse work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments as required by regulatory agencies and manufacturers recommendations.
  • Prepare for and execute equipment installation, operation, and performance qualifications (IQ, OQ, PQ) of laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Maintain records of work performed with completed service including cost of time and materials.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies, equipment, reference materials, and spare parts to complete assignments.
  • Provide input on preventive maintenance tasks and scheduling.
  • Move equipment and automation between labs and buildings.
  • Participate in required safety training and other continuing education at the request or direction of the Biomedical Service Engineering Supervisor.
  • Assist in the ongoing training of Biomedical Service Technicians in the evaluation, repair, and installation of laboratory equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory equipment is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent college coursework in Engineering, Biological or Chemical Science, or Associate's degree with two years of directly related experience in mechanical and/or electrical systems repair, or laboratory setting, or four years of directly related experience as a Biomedical Service Engineer, Lab Service Engineer, Field Service Engineer, or other related experience.
