About the position

The Biometrician role at BASF in Research Triangle Park, NC, is focused on providing data analytics support to variety plant breeding programs in North America. This position is integral to the Agricultural Solutions team, which aims to enhance sustainable agriculture through innovative practices. The Biometrician will collaborate closely with breeders and geneticists, utilizing statistical genetics and experimental design to optimize plant breeding processes and contribute to the development of new algorithms for superior decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Support field trial design for breeding programs using applied statistics.
• Perform multi-environment field trial data analysis for key traits.
• Assist in developing genomic selection models and provide predictions for breeding decisions.
• Contribute to the development of new algorithms for prediction and decision-making.
• Train and support breeders in experimental design and data analysis activities.
• Build internal expertise in molecular breeding and quantitative genetics.

Requirements

• Ph.D. degree in quantitative genetics, statistics, or equivalent.
• 4 years of industry experience in applied analytics for plant breeding.
• Strong record of deploying software and algorithms in commercial plant breeding processes.
• Excellent knowledge of plant breeding and analytics application in decision-making.
• Strong mixed modeling skills with experience in Asreml.
• Proficiency in programming with R statistical software.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
