The Biostatistician II collaborates closely with Biostatistician IIIs to manage statistical operations and provide guidance to Biostatistician I staff, ensuring that all statistical products meet the required standards of validity and accountability. In this role, the Biostatistician II will implement strategies to enhance the performance of CIBMTR's statistical services, aligning operational goals with the organization's mission. They will assist in project management to ensure timely completion of statistical components for analyses and reports, and will be involved in writing Statistical Analysis Plans and reports. The position requires the ability to independently collaborate with principal investigators and serve as the primary statistician for CIBMTR research studies, which includes writing SAS programs for data analysis and performing various statistical analyses under the supervision of PhD statisticians. The Biostatistician II will also engage in innovation by collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop metrics for new technologies, resolve data inconsistencies, and maintain statistical programming standards. They will support registry operations by developing educational materials and participating in business development activities. Additionally, the role includes supervisory responsibilities, where the Biostatistician II will oversee Biostatistician I staff, providing training and mentorship while managing administrative functions such as hiring and performance evaluation. Overall, this position is integral to the success of the CIBMTR's research initiatives, requiring a blend of statistical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Biostatistician IIIs to implement strategies that enhance the performance and capabilities of the CIBMTR MCW's statistical services.
  • Implement standard metrics relative to operational success under the direction of CIBMTR Biostatistician IIIs.
  • Assist in the project management of studies to ensure timely and accurate completion of statistical-related components.
  • Implement standard quality control processes within the Statistical Operations area.
  • Collaborate with Statistical Directors in writing Statistical Analysis Plans and Statistical Reports.
  • Serve as the primary statistician for CIBMTR research studies and collaborate with principal investigators.
  • Write SAS programs to create or verify key analysis data sets and TLFs.
  • Perform descriptive, univariate and multivariate analyses with supervision.
  • Review clinical study reports and assist in manuscripts submitted for publication.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to measure and track quality metrics for new technologies.
  • Work with IT staff to create new computed database variables and resolve database problems.
  • Collaborate with Data Operations staff to resolve data inconsistencies for research studies.
  • Assist in the development of data collection forms and maintain statistical programming standards.
  • Develop and implement systems that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality.
  • Assist in writing grants and peer-reviewed scientific publications.
  • Provide training, mentorship, and guidance to Biostatisticians I.
  • Supervise CIBMTR-MCW Biostatistician I and manage administrative functions.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Biostatistics or a closely related biomedical field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in biostatistics or statistical analysis.
  • Experience managing or coordinating statistical projects.
  • Proficiency in programming with statistical analysis programs, including SAS.
  • Knowledge of research study design methods and statistical analyses.
  • Strong analytical communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced knowledge of one or more programming languages.
  • Experience with statistical design/analysis of large, long-term observational epidemiological research studies.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel.
