About the position

The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking a Biostatistician at the Research Instructor rank to join its Department of Biostatistics and Informatics and the Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA). This position is ideal for individuals passionate about advancing public health through innovative research, particularly in the field of ‘omics research, including proteomics and metabolomics. The successful candidate will collaborate with experienced faculty and will be involved in all aspects of the research process, from study design to data management, complex programming, analysis implementation, and data visualization. The role also includes the dissemination of research findings through co-authorship of abstracts, presentations, and scientific manuscripts. As a Biostatistician, you will provide high-level, professional, and scientifically rigorous design and analysis support to biomedical researchers at CU Anschutz. The position offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative projects that directly impact public health while receiving mentoring and career development support. Over time, you will be expected to work more independently and apply advanced methodologies to solve analytic challenges. Key responsibilities include collaborating on research design, overseeing data management tasks, implementing advanced programming and analysis techniques, creating data visualizations, and applying innovative methodologies to address complex research challenges. You will also provide mentorship to junior researchers and engage in practices that support diversity and equity within research projects. This hybrid position allows for a flexible work schedule, with three days per week on campus and additional in-person meetings as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on research design, including determining appropriate sample sizes and developing analysis plans.
  • Oversee data management tasks, including data pre-processing and integration of complex datasets.
  • Implement and optimize complex statistical programming techniques using tools like R and Python.
  • Create data visualizations and contribute to the dissemination of research findings through co-authoring abstracts and scientific manuscripts.
  • Apply and develop new analytic methodologies to address complex research challenges.
  • Provide high-level design and analysis support under the guidance of doctoral-level biostatisticians.
  • Mentor junior researchers, PRAs, and graduate research assistants as needed.
  • Engage in practices that support diversity, equity, and inclusion within research projects.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related area of graduate-level training at the start date of the position.
  • At least 2 years of post-graduate experience as an analytic consultant or collaborator.
  • At least 2 years of experience with proteomic and/or metabolomic data.
  • Experience collaborating with pulmonary researchers in large cohorts.
  • Experience working with data from the NHLBI TOPMed Consortium.
  • At least 5 collaborative publications.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years of experience with data management and integration of data sources.
  • 3+ years of experience serving as a biostatistician or data analyst on multiple projects.
  • Experience working with data from large ‘omics consortia.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the analytic elements of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in several statistical programming software languages.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high-performance computing environment.
