About the position

The Biostatistician at CHOC Children's plays a crucial role in supporting qualitative and quantitative scientific research and quality improvement projects. This position involves performing statistical analysis, providing biostatistical consultation, assisting in study design, and managing data for various research initiatives. The Biostatistician will work collaboratively with researchers, contribute to grant proposals, and stay updated with relevant research literature, all while managing multiple projects in a dynamic clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform statistical analysis relevant to biostatistics in support of research and quality improvement projects.
  • Provide biostatistical consultation to researchers and support study design and data analysis.
  • Develop mathematical models and conduct statistical programming for clinical trials and population-based studies.
  • Run simulations for new and existing mathematical approaches to data analysis, including survival analysis and machine learning methods.
  • Participate in consultations and discussions with researchers regarding statistical methodologies.
  • Assist in the preparation of research papers, abstracts, and presentations.
  • Contribute to grant proposal preparation for future funding opportunities.
  • Manage multiple collaborative research projects and associated deadlines independently.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in statistics or biostatistics, or equivalent degree or experience with emphasis on statistical methods.
  • Minimum of four years of professional experience as an independent biostatistician in a biomedical research setting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and advanced skills in R or SAS.
  • Experience in simulation programming in R and basic knowledge of Stata.
  • Strong record of co-authorship on collaborative biomedical and nursing research publications.
  • Experience in the design, monitoring, and statistical analysis of clinical trials.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with managing large datasets and databases for longitudinal studies.
  • Proficient in reference management software (e.g., Mendeley, EndNote).
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse research personnel.
