About the position

The Biostatistician at Scripps Research will provide advanced statistical expertise and support to researchers and teams within the institute. This role involves designing, developing, and reporting on research studies, as well as analyzing and interpreting biological data. The Biostatistician will collaborate across various research entities to enhance the rigor and reproducibility of preclinical research, contributing to significant advancements in biomedical science.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, implement, and report findings on targeted statistical research studies.
  • Provide consultation to investigators on experimental design and statistical research approaches.
  • Work with investigators to formalize analysis plans and reporting specifications.
  • Advise on statistical analysis strategies and interpretation of results.
  • Build and sustain collaborative relationships across different disciplines.
  • Assist in the preparation of clinical trial documents, protocols, and scientific manuscripts.
  • Use advanced statistical software to analyze and interpret research data.
  • Develop enhancements to statistical software and maintain knowledge of current trends in statistical analysis methodology.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biostatistics with at least 4 years of relevant experience, or a master's degree in applied Biostatistics or Biological data science with 2-4 years of experience.
  • Experience in research statistics, model development, regression analysis, and statistical tests.
  • At least 2 years of experience developing statistical plans and providing analysis for experimental datasets from genomic or image studies.
  • Experience working at research institutions is preferred.
  • Ability to consult with scientific investigators and determine statistical analysis strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of statistical research principles and methods.
  • Ability to apply advanced statistical techniques in scientific research.
  • Proficiency in R and R packages; experience in Python scripting is helpful; familiarity with JMP is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Linux operating systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with scientific reporting and manuscript preparation requirements.
  • Exceptional candidates with backgrounds bridging biological science and biostatistics will be considered.
