About the position

The Biotechnology Subject Matter Expert (SME) will advise top Pentagon leadership on biotechnology issues, particularly in relation to directed energy and radio frequency research. This role involves supporting the Office of Under Secretary of Defense (Research & Engineering) and guiding strategic biotechnology initiatives. The SME will leverage their expertise in biological experimentation and directed energy capabilities to contribute to national defense modernization efforts.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and secure cutting-edge technology essential to the modernization of national strategy in defense.
• Represent USD R&E on Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and participate in Government-approved conferences and forums.
• Assist, prepare and conduct meetings for current Biotechnology issues.
• Conduct biotechnology research analysis.
• Develop and coordinate concepts and requirements for the application of current and emerging technologies as they apply to DoD's R&E program.
• Assist and prepare presentations and reports to DoD leadership and outside DoD.
• Track the department-wide budget for efforts aligning with Biotechnology.
• Maintain and update Biotechnology modernization roadmaps, coordinating with key stakeholders.
• Make recommendations to the development of Concepts of Operations (CONOPS) pertinent to mission needs and technical capabilities.

Requirements

• 10 years of experience in engineering, biotechnology, and Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E); 14 years preferred.
• Master's degree in STEM and minimum of 5 years recent experience in biotechnology; 7 years preferred.
• TS/SCI Clearance.
• Previous experience with Department of Defense RDT&E mission and processes.
• Previous experience in engineering, analysis of alternatives, integration, requirements, and testing.
• Previous experience with biotechnology programs.
• Excellent writing, communication, and briefing skills.
