About the position

The Bix Produce Special Driver position at Sysco involves running daily routes with frequent stops, where drivers are responsible for loading packages onto hand trucks and unloading products at each designated stop. The role requires candidates to operate within a cross-dock model, picking up loaded trucks from a nightly delivery at the assigned loading dock and returning empty trucks to the assigned lot at the end of their route. Drivers may also assist with loading trucks, palletizing products, and performing other duties as assigned by their Supervisor or Manager. In this role, drivers must efficiently run their routes, meeting or exceeding designated route times. They will unload products from trailers, either by hand or using hand carts, and place them in designated customer storage areas. This may involve transporting products down ramps, stairs, or docks in various weather conditions. The physical demands of the job include frequently lifting, pushing, or moving products weighing between 1 to 75 pounds, with some items weighing up to 100 pounds. Drivers will also need to reach up to 72 inches to stack and unstack pallets and hand carts, and they will constantly bend and twist while loading and unloading products. Additionally, drivers are responsible for verifying the delivery of items with customers, obtaining proper signatures, and contacting management for authorization when discrepancies arise. They must handle customer complaints professionally and ensure that company equipment is used properly, following written driver safety rules. Pre-trip and post-trip inspections are mandatory, in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Sysco policies. Candidates for this position should have a high school diploma or GED, along with at least one year of route delivery experience or a relevant background driving a straight truck. A valid driver's license is required, and candidates must be able to read and understand English. The role demands strong customer relations and problem resolution skills, as well as the ability to effectively plan and organize work activities independently. Overall, this position is crucial for maintaining the efficiency of Sysco's operations and ensuring customer satisfaction through reliable delivery services.
