As a Blood Collection Staff member, you will take the time to personally connect with donors, listen to their stories, and help them understand how impactful their donation is. You will be detail-oriented to ensure that the blood collected meets goals, regulatory requirements, and can be safely transfused. The position may require driving Red Cross vehicles and working with the team to set up and tear down equipment at donation sites. The schedule is variable, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays, to best meet the needs of donors and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize healthcare and customer service skills to assist with the blood collection process.
  • Collaborate with the team to transport and set up equipment at collection sites.
  • Create a welcoming and comfortable environment for volunteer donors.
  • Follow all safety procedures while collecting blood donations.
  • Connect personally with donors and help them understand the impact of their donations.
  • Ensure that blood collected meets goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive Red Cross vehicles as needed and assist with equipment setup and teardown at donation sites.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills are required.
  • A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record is required.
  • Physical ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs.
  • Good manual dexterity and the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes is required.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications are required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.).
  • Prior leadership experience.
