About the position

The Avionics Manufacturing Engineer at Blue Origin will play a crucial role in the development of satellite systems aimed at enhancing space infrastructure and mobility on-orbit. This position involves translating engineering designs into operational processes for the production of the Blue Ring spacecraft, which supports various missions and offers advanced capabilities for payload maneuvering. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with engineering requirements and drive continuous improvements in manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Support the manufacturing floor in assembly and installation, ensuring compliance with engineering requirements, discrepancy resolution, and component acceptance testing.
  • Perform in a hands-on engineering role and serve as a liaison between elements of design, test, manufacturing, and operations.
  • Disposition and investigate root causes of discrepancies; implement preventative/corrective actions.
  • Create in-build redlines and recommend engineering changes to improve design.
  • Support the development of analog and digital boards that interact with avionics systems through operational gated reviews by evaluating and aiding in required artifact development.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA), evaluate avionics embedded controller hardware across the product life cycle, and drive continuous improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Direct hands-on experience with complex commercial or aerospace electronic assemblies.
  • Direct hands-on experience with analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit analysis, simulation, design, test, debug, signal integrity, power, grounding, and general board layout principles.
  • Familiar with the design, development, and verification of complex computational devices.
  • Highly organized team player with excellent technical communication skills and exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in transitioning products from design development into manufacturing and production.
  • Strong coordination and project management skills to track, manage, and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks.
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to quickly learn and use various software tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • 7+ years of experience in design, development, and test (5+ years with Masters).
  • Experience with Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Failure Mode, Effect and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
  • Expertise in designing high-reliability, safety-critical Circuit Card Assemblies (CCA).
  • Experience creating and revising Electrical Component Management Plan (ECMP) or Parts Management Plan (PMP) documents.
  • Proficiency using Altium/Cadence OrCAD/Allegro to design complex aerospace boards.
  • Proficiency with scripting, programming, and analysis/modeling tools: Python, Linux/Windows shell scripting, assembly language, C, C++; MATLAB/Simulink/SPICE.
