About the position

The Board, Governance, & Policy Assistant at Lake Tahoe Community College plays a crucial role in supporting the District Superintendent/President and the Board of Trustees. This position involves a variety of complex administrative and confidential duties, ensuring compliance with governance policies and procedures, and facilitating effective communication within the college community. The Assistant will be responsible for preparing meeting agendas, maintaining official records, and coordinating privileged information related to Board activities, all while fostering positive relationships with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with complex administrative matters for the Superintendent/President and Board of Trustees.
  • Prepare and disseminate meeting agendas, materials, and minutes related to campus governance.
  • Attend Board meetings and perform secretarial duties, including recording actions and maintaining official records.
  • Coordinate and prepare agendas for assigned councils and committees, ensuring compliance with public access requirements.
  • Maintain and update the District's policy and procedure manual, acting as a source of information regarding policies and procedures.
  • Manage the movement of policy through shared governance and maintain evidence of participatory governance practices.
  • Prepare and review Board reports and materials for accuracy and compliance with established standards.
  • Coordinate logistical details for meetings, including set-up and scheduling of Board participation in District Advisory Committees.
  • Compose Board-related correspondence and manage travel arrangements for Board members.
  • Provide backup support for the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent/President as needed.

Requirements

  • An associate's degree plus three years of relevant work experience in clerical, secretarial, and administrative support roles.
  • Strong editing and proofing skills with a focus on correct English usage, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of the Ralph M. Brown Act legislation and its interpretation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software applications.
  • Ability to type 60 wpm and take/transcribe notes from electronic media.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish.
