About the position

Boston Harbor City Cruises is seeking Part-Time and Full-Time Captains for our operation in Boston, MA. The Captain is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and overall condition of the vessel and the safety of all aboard. The Captain is the supervisor of vessel crew and directs the crew on a day-to-day basis, ensuring compliance with the minimum qualification requirements of the company and all regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and navigation of the vessel in all weather conditions.
  • Ensures that the vessel is properly manned in accordance with the vessel's COI and that accurate passenger counts are conducted and recorded.
  • Responsible for the training of the vessel crew and adherence to all applicable United States Coast Guard, Federal and State laws, including Company policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate the capabilities and performance of each crew member and keep the Operations Manager informed.
  • Immediately report any accident, incident or unusual occurrence to the appropriate manager and ensure proper documentation is completed.
  • Responsible for the appearance and cleanliness of the vessel.
  • Conduct periodic engine room inspections while underway.
  • Document and report maintenance activities and deficiencies in the company's Wheel-House Software.
  • Ensure security drills are conducted and recorded as required by company policy.
  • Conduct Safety Drills as required by USCG regulations and as outlined by Company Policy.
  • Conduct daily job briefings at the beginning and end of the shift and log them in the vessel's logbook.
  • Ensure adherence to Coast Guard rules and regulations, and other federal and local rules and regulations.
  • Ensure strict compliance to Emergency Response Plan.
  • Additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid 100ton Masters License with a satisfactory record
  • Valid TWIC Card, First Aid/CPR cards
  • FCC Marine Radio Operators Permit
  • Five (5) years maritime experience; with two (2) years as Master preferred
  • Strong focus on safety and teamwork with the ability to establish & maintain effective professional relationships
  • Detailed working knowledge of all ships systems and their proper maintenance
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems while prioritizing tasks in order of importance
  • Ability to maintain calm and take control in various situations
  • Effective communication skills to direct crew, keep passengers safe and relay pertinent information
  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds; moving furniture and other heavy items such as provisions up and down stairs
  • Receptive to working nights/weekends and major holidays
  • Must be a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident per US Coast Guard regulations.
