About the position

The Bullock Museum Graphic Designer is a vital member of the in-house creative team within the Museum's Communications department. This full-time position is dedicated to enhancing and informing the visitor experience through unique and engaging visual designs that span various Museum initiatives. The Graphic Designer will collaborate with cross-departmental teams to ensure that all work aligns with the Museum's mission and values, reflecting the diverse cultures of Texas. Reporting to the Head of Creative Services, the designer will develop original concepts and designs while performing complex graphic, multimedia, and production work. The role requires a thoughtful approach to design, utilizing proficient knowledge of graphic design styles and techniques across a wide range of printed publications, digital marketing assets, and onsite marketing materials. In this dynamic environment, the Graphic Designer will contribute to significant projects, including the Museum's 25th Anniversary and America250 initiatives, which commemorate important milestones for Texas and the nation. The position demands a proactive attitude, as the designer will manage multiple projects under general supervision, demonstrating initiative and independent judgment. The ideal candidate will be motivated to highlight their strengths in creating original concepts, maintaining the Museum's style and identity, and promoting the Museum's mission through effective design. Regular attendance and the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed are essential job duties.

Responsibilities

  • Creates original concepts and designs for print and digital projects.
  • Maintains the Museum Style and Identity for consistent messaging.
  • Collaborates with all Museum departments to promote the Museum's mission.
  • Stays current with design trends, software, and production methods.
  • Participates in regular production or project planning meetings.
  • Informs the Head of Creative Services of significant design or production issues.
  • Utilizes museum print production equipment such as printers and scanners.
  • Follows agency procedures when collaborating with outside vendors.
  • Maintains a well-organized digital and graphics library.
  • Complies with security and safety rules and regulations.
  • Interacts professionally with employees, visitors, and the public.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with agency ethical standards.
  • May occasionally be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in fine arts, graphic design, or a related field.
  • Two years' experience in graphic design and working with production vendors.
  • Minimum of two years' experience with Digital Design.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Proficient use of personal computers with advanced knowledge of graphic design software, including Apple OS and Adobe Creative Cloud.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced knowledge of graphic design principles, typography, and color theory.
  • Experience creating and/or producing original photographs, illustrations, or animated graphics.
  • Demonstrated experience managing print and digital projects from start-to-finish.
  • Environmental design and production experience in a cultural institution setting.
