About the position

The Welder/Body Install Technician at SMF, Inc. is responsible for the assembly and installation of custom hitches, frame extensions, truck body components, and aerial equipment on truck chassis. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with various materials while following blueprints and specifications. The technician will perform welding tasks, ensuring high-quality finishes and safe operation of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform assembly and installations of custom hitches and truck body components.
• Fit and weld using MIG processes, ensuring aesthetically pleasing welds.
• Use acetylene set and plasma machine for burning.
• Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
• Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and manuals.
• Inspect all products manufactured for quality assurance.
• Follow schematics, drawings, or blueprints with minimal supervision.

Requirements

• 1 year of welding experience.
• Good mechanical knowledge and aptitude.
• Ability to use basic hand and measuring tools.
• Experience with truck mounted equipment in a production environment preferred.
• Physical strength to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Agility and balance to climb and work at heights of 14 to 15 feet.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in auto body repair.
• Familiarity with various materials such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
