About the position

The Body Shop Craftsperson at Karma Automotive is responsible for assembling parts or units and ensuring they are positioned, aligned, and fastened correctly to assemblies, sub-assemblies, or frames using both hand tools and power tools. Candidates must be adept at reading work instructions and may be required to utilize precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and fixtures. This role emphasizes the importance of lean manufacturing principles and effective team interaction both within and outside the department. The ideal candidate will possess the knowledge and ability to use the appropriate tools for the trade, including grinders, ratchets, wrenches, drills, screwdrivers, mallets, feeler gauges, SPR tools, and other power tools. They must demonstrate the ability to follow work instructions and perform tasks on time while maintaining the required quality standards. Problem-solving skills in a team environment are essential, as is the physical capability to lift body parts, such as doors, weighing up to 44 lbs. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, contributing to the dynamic nature of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble parts or units and position, align, and fasten them to assemblies, sub-assemblies, or frames using hand and power tools.
  • Read and interpret work instructions accurately.
  • Utilize precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers as required.
  • Engage in lean manufacturing practices and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Use appropriate tools for the trade, including grinders, ratchets, wrenches, drills, and screwdrivers.
  • Follow work instructions and complete tasks on time with the required quality.
  • Problem-solve effectively in a team environment.
  • Lift and position body parts, such as doors, weighing up to 44 lbs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED minimum.
  • Partial college or trade school in the automotive or manufacturing field is a plus.
  • Experience in dent repair is a plus.
  • Forklift certification is a plus.
  • Welding experience or certification is a plus.
  • Experience in manufacturing or automotive work and/or machine repair in the automobile manufacturing, aerospace, or related industry.
  • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015) is applicable.
  • Strong communication skills, mechanical aptitude, and hand-eye coordination are critical.
  • Dependability and a strong willingness to learn are essential.
