The Boiler Plant Equipment Mechanic position at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, involves the maintenance and repair of industrial heating equipment. The role is essential for ensuring the efficient operation of the facility's boiler systems, contributing to the overall mission of providing outstanding service to veterans. This full-time position requires physical exertion and the ability to work on a rotating schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Disassemble and repair various sizes and types of industrial heating equipment.
• Clean parts using solvent, steam, and air.
• Fit parts and reassemble units, checking, removing, and replacing bearings, gauges, pressure regulators, valves, heating coils, traps, burners, and other related parts.
• Repair fire boxes under boilers and fix refractories in boiler fireboxes, baffles, and replace tubes in boilers.
• Remove and install equipment by bolting and unbolting the frames.
• Read and comprehend maintenance-repair manuals and prints.
• Overhaul feed water pumps, condensate return pumps, brine pumps, and fuel oil pumps, either steam or electrically driven.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
• Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
• Ability to perform the duties of this position as demonstrated by training or experience.
• Experience in equipment assembly, installation, and repair.
• Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading.
• Knowledge of materials and technical practices related to the job.
• Troubleshooting skills and ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
