About the position

The Boilermaker position at Austin Industries involves constructing, assembling, maintaining, and repairing stationary steam boilers and associated equipment. The role requires a hands-on approach to ensure the integrity and functionality of boiler systems, including inspecting for defects, performing repairs, and utilizing various tools and techniques to achieve precise assembly and maintenance. This position is essential for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of boiler systems in industrial settings.

Responsibilities

• Construct, assemble, maintain, and repair stationary steam boilers and boiler house auxiliaries.
• Align structures or plate sections to assemble boiler frame tanks or vats, following blueprints.
• Inspect and repair boiler fittings, such as safety valves, regulators, and automatic-control mechanisms.
• Examine boilers and pressure vessels to locate defects for repair.
• Bolt or arc weld pressure vessel structures and parts together.
• Repair or replace defective pressure vessel parts using various tools and equipment.
• Attach rigging and signal crane or hoist operators to lift heavy sections into place.
• Bell, bead with power hammers, or weld pressure vessel tube ends to ensure leakproof joints.
• Lay out plate, sheet steel, or other heavy metal and mark bending and cutting lines.
• Install manholes, handholes, taps, tubes, valves, gauges, or feedwater connections in drums of water tube boilers.
• Study blueprints to determine locations and dimensions of parts.
• Straighten or reshape bent pressure vessel plates or structure parts.
• Shape seams, joints, or irregular edges of pressure vessel sections to attain specified fit.
• Position, align, and secure structural parts to boiler frames, tanks, or vats following blueprints.
• Locate and mark reference points for columns or plates on boiler foundations.
• Shape or fabricate parts to adapt pressure vessels, heat exchangers, or piping to premises.
• Clean pressure vessel equipment using scrapers and cleaning solvents.
• Install refractory bricks or other heat-resistant materials in fireboxes of pressure vessels.
• Assemble large vessels in an on-site fabrication shop prior to installation.

Requirements

• NCCER Boilermaker certification.
• Valid Driver's License and TWIC Card.
• 3-5 years of Journeyman level experience.
