About the position

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. is seeking a skilled Boilermaker to join our team in Arkadelphia, AR. The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling, analyzing defects in, and repairing boilers, boiler auxiliaries and ancillaries, pressure vessels, tanks, and vats in the field. This role requires a strong understanding of blueprints and the ability to use hand tools and portable power tools and equipment effectively. The Boilermaker will ensure that all tasks are completed in a safe and timely manner while maintaining the highest quality standards. In this position, you will read specifications to determine the location, quantity, and sizes of materials needed for various projects. You will also locate and mark reference points for columns or plates on foundations, utilizing tools such as master straightedges, squares, transits, and measuring tapes, while applying your knowledge of geometry. The role involves bolting pressure vessel structures and parts together, inspecting boiler tubes, vessels, and tanks for flaws or defects, and installing various components such as manholes, hand holes, taps, valves, gauges, and feed water connections in the drums of water tube boilers. Additionally, you will be responsible for installing refractory brick and other heat-resistant materials in fireboxes of pressure vessels, laying out plates, sheet steel, and other metals, and locating cutting lines using protractors, compasses, and drawing instruments. Cleaning pressure vessel equipment and maintaining a tidy work area are also essential duties. The Boilermaker will be expected to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the team and the company.

Responsibilities

  • Read specifications to determine location, quantity, and sizes of materials.
  • Locate and mark reference points for columns or plates on foundation using master straightedge, squares, transit, and measuring tape.
  • Bell, bead with power hammer pressure vessel tube ends to ensure leak-proof joints.
  • Bolt pressure vessel structures and parts together.
  • Inspect boiler tubes, vessels, and tanks for flaws or defects so they can be repaired.
  • Install manholes, hand holes, taps, valves, gauges, and feed water connections in the drums of water tube boilers.
  • Install refractory brick and other heat-resistant materials in fireboxes of pressure vessels.
  • Lay out plate, sheet steel, and other metal and locate cutting lines using protractors, compasses, and drawing instruments.
  • Repair or replace defective parts.
  • Clean pressure vessel equipment using wire brushes and cleaning solvents.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and tidy manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in the field.
  • Ability to utilize basic math and read a variety of precision measuring tools and gauges.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand, and reach repetitively.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 200 feet.
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, damp, and cramped environments.
  • Availability for 40 or more hours per week with possible weekend work.
  • Background check and drug screen based on job location/requirements.
