Kuhn Employment Opportunities is seeking a dedicated Accounting Specialist to join our team. This full-time position is crucial in maintaining the systems related to Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, as well as managing payroll through ADP and QuickBooks. The Accounting Specialist will report to the Chief Financial Officer and will be responsible for various accounting functions that are essential to the smooth operation of our financial department. In this role, the Accounting Specialist will handle payroll processing, which includes entering data into ADP and creating payroll journal entries. The position also involves preparing vendor invoices and other expenses, processing accounts payable, and ensuring the accuracy of invoices and expenses. The Accounting Specialist will prepare customer invoices and manage billing adjustments and credit collections, ensuring timely customer receipts. Additionally, the role requires assisting with month-end accounting functions and maintaining organized files and financial statements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles, particularly in a non-profit setting, and will be proficient in using accounting software such as QuickBooks. Attention to detail and excellent communication skills are essential, as the Accounting Specialist will interact with various stakeholders to ensure financial accuracy and compliance with regulations. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for various aspects of Payroll processing, including entering data into ADP and creating Payroll Journal entries.
  • Prepare all vendor invoices and other expenses; post completed items in our Accounting software program.
  • Process Accounts Payable, ensuring accuracy of invoices and expenses, and investigating errors.
  • Prepare customer invoices and post to Accounts Receivable.
  • Manage specialized billing procedures such as state contracts or other comparable entities as needed.
  • Handle billing adjustments and credit collections, ensuring billing accuracy and timely customer receipts.
  • Assist with all aspects of the Cash Receipts process.
  • Assist with month-end accounting functions, including Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable activity.
  • Assist the CFO in maintaining organized files, Policies and Procedures, and Financial Statement preparatory work.
  • Assist the CFO in other essential duties of the department on an as-needed basis.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field (required).
  • 1 year of experience as an accounting supervisor or manager (non-profit experience preferred).
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and QuickBooks.
  • Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state regulations.
  • Attention to detail is critical.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with non-profit accounting (1 year preferred).
  • Familiarity with GAAP (1 year preferred).
