About the position

The Payroll Section is responsible for processing payroll for all civilian and uniformed members of service for the NYPD. The Payroll Section is seeking a Bookkeeper, Level III who will perform Administrative functions including some accounting and auditing work.

Responsibilities

  • Calculating military members of the services' differential pay (Extended Military Benefits Program-DP) and obtaining approval from DCAS.
  • Researching, calculating, inputting data and sending correspondences to the 'EMBP-FT' members in regards to their military repayment.
  • Corresponding with active and ceased members of service.
  • Processing EMBP repayments and obtaining approval from DCAS and send to OPA for processing.
  • Processing repayments and calculating military leave conversations for military members.
  • Calculate lump sum payment for unused Leave balances.

Requirements

  • Completion of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university, including 6 credits in accounting; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of satisfactory full-time bookkeeping experience; or
  • A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to '1' or '2' above.
  • All candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and either 6 semester credits in accounting from an accredited college or 6 months of experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Must be very detail oriented and proficient in data entry.
  • Preferred computer applications: MS Excel, MS Word, MS Access, PMS (Payroll Management System), CHRMS (City Human Resources Management System), PI (Payroll Information), Citytime, NYCAPS (NYC Automated Personnel System)
