About the position

Planned Parenthood of Maryland (PPM) is a not-for-profit family planning agency dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable reproductive health care for women, men, and teens. Our mission is to ensure that all Marylanders have access to a comprehensive range of reproductive health care services. We empower individuals to make informed decisions regarding their reproductive health, family planning options, and sexuality. The Bookkeeper position is a vital role within our organization, responsible for performing a variety of professional accounting tasks including payroll processing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Under the guidance of senior team members, the Bookkeeper will support the maintenance of the general ledger and assist in the preparation of financial reports for the Board, government agencies, and grantors. Additionally, this role will aid in the preparation and analysis of internal reports necessary for effective reporting, budgeting, and financial control. The Bookkeeper will work in a hybrid environment, spending four days a week in the office and one day working from home. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. The successful candidate will be expected to reconcile and record cash receipt financial information, prepare and process check deposits, and maintain electronic files for vendor invoices and employee expenses. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and executive management are essential for this role. The Bookkeeper will also be responsible for supporting the accounts payable process and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile and record cash receipt financial information between the accounting system and operating bank account.
  • Prepare, process, and apply check deposits and corresponding reports.
  • Manage payroll and accounts payable group email accounts, ensuring timely responses.
  • Review and maintain electronic files for vendor invoices and employee expenses.
  • Support the accounts payable process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressive experience in a front office or similar work environment.
  • Healthcare experience preferred.
  • Skilled and proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to solve problems independently and effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of basic accounting concepts and principles, including calculating figures and validating data.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with staff, vendors, Executive Management, and the public in a positive professional manner.
  • Ability to examine and verify financial documents and reports.
  • Ability to use critical thinking to objectively analyze data and issues.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and control multiple tasks simultaneously.
