About the position

Kanaka Partners is seeking a self-driven and organized accounting professional to join our team as a Bookkeeper. This full-time position is ideal for someone who thrives in environments with tight deadlines and minimal supervision. The Bookkeeper will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks including reconciliation, month-end closing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. The role requires a strong understanding of general ledger reconciliation, coding, and light journal entries, as well as proficiency in data entry and cash applications. In this position, the Bookkeeper will set up subcontractor 1099s and manage all IRS year-end requirements. They will oversee the general ledger, prepare monthly reconciliations, financial statements, and all supporting documents. Additionally, the Bookkeeper will classify sales tax records and create and file quarterly payments. Responsibilities also include completing accounts payable, drawing up cash flow projections as needed, supervising the monthly accounting close, and managing accounts receivable. The role requires proficiency in credit card management and reconciliation, as well as the ability to check the monthly accounting close and handle alternative special projects as requested. The ideal candidate will have significant accounting experience, preferably as a Bookkeeper, and possess distinguished analytical, quantitative, and social skills. A self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills is essential, along with a deep understanding of bank reconciliations and experience in accounts payable and receivable. The ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-pressure environment while prioritizing tasks and adapting to quick changes is crucial. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, along with a keen attention to detail, are also necessary for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciliation of accounts and month-end closing.
  • Management of accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Handling coding, light journal entries, and general ledger reconciliation.
  • Performing data entry and cash applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (Required).
  • 5 years of bookkeeping experience (Preferred).
  • 2 years of experience in construction or development (Preferred).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
  • Proficient in accounts payable and accounts receivable management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to implement solutions.
  • Experience with vendor management.
