About the position

The Bookkeeper at Fiesta Mart plays a crucial role in managing the store's financial transactions and ensuring compliance with company policies regarding cash handling. Under the supervision of the Store Director, the Bookkeeper is responsible for preparing and verifying the store's money safe and cashier tilts, enforcing cash handling procedures, and may also oversee the front end operations of the store. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. The Bookkeeper begins their shift by disabling the alarm for the store and the safe, followed by verifying the cash amounts in the safes. They prepare weekly sales reports that detail the overall store sales and departmental sales, and they also tally cashier sales for the cashier of the month program. The role involves preparing media reports, managing cashier pick-ups and loans, and ensuring that the money is accurately counted and deposited by 8:00-8:30 AM. Additionally, the Bookkeeper is responsible for counting WIC vouchers and matching them to cashier reports, ensuring accuracy in all financial transactions. As cashiers arrive, the Bookkeeper provides them with their loans and tilts, ensuring that all funds are counted accurately. They also assign cashier breaks and assist in cashier duties during busy periods. Throughout the day, the Bookkeeper prepares cashier declarations and accountability reports, documenting each deposit made by cashiers and breaking down the amounts into cash, credit cards, and other forms of payment. The bank deposit is entered into the computer system, and various reports are prepared to ensure compliance with cash handling procedures. The Bookkeeper also performs essential functions such as counting and balancing cashier tilts, verifying transactions, ordering money change from the bank, and enforcing cash handling procedures among Front End Managers and Cashiers. They are expected to follow company policies and maintain high standards of customer service while performing their duties. This position may also require the Bookkeeper to perform the functions of the Front End Manager in their absence and to assist as a Cashier when needed.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years of experience as a fully skilled Bookkeeper.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to provide on-the-job training in cash handling to lower-level employees.
  • Ability to multitask and resolve problems effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in bookkeeping within a grocery store or similar industry.
