About the position

The Bookkeeper plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely recording, processing, and reconciliation of all grain-related transactions. This includes managing contracts, creating and processing invoices, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining meticulous records. This role requires strong communication and collaboration with both internal teams and external customers, particularly farmers. The Grain Accounting Clerk also contributes to continuous process improvement and assists in training colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately record truck, barge, and rail shipments, applying them to the correct contracts and preparing necessary documentation for settlement and invoicing.
  • Generate tickets, apply them to contracts, and settle/invoice customers and vendors for truck/barge/rail shipments, ensuring seamless interface with terminal systems.
  • Perform daily balancing controls, prepare journal entries, reconcile interoffice transactions, and conduct month-end bushel balancing.
  • Effectively manage and resolve customer disputes in a timely and professional manner.
  • Analyze data, compare accounting results with commercial estimates, identify discrepancies, and propose process improvements.
  • Provide support, instruction, and training to peers on complex or non-routine tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in a related field, preferably within the agricultural or grain industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and other relevant software.
  • Ability to learn and utilize proprietary commercial systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
