About the position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper to join our team at the Kentucky Horseshoeing School. This part-time, contract position is essential for maintaining accurate financial information and supporting the overall financial health of the organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices, along with experience in managing financial records.

Responsibilities

• Perform account reconciliation to ensure accuracy of financial records.
• Maintain the general ledger accounting system, ensuring all entries are accurate and timely.
• Process accounts payable and manage vendor relationships effectively.
• Prepare payroll and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Utilize financial software such as Xero or Sage for bookkeeping tasks.
• Apply GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) in all accounting activities.
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports as required.
• Support audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations of financial transactions.
• Stay updated on financial concepts and best practices to enhance bookkeeping processes.

Requirements

• Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles.
• Proficiency in account reconciliation and general ledger accounting.
• Familiarity with financial software, particularly Xero or Sage, is preferred.
• Strong 10 key typing skills for efficient data entry.
• Knowledge of payroll processing and related regulations is a plus.
• Understanding of GAAP and general financial concepts is essential.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, managing multiple tasks effectively.
