About the position

The Bookkeeper will play a crucial role in managing the financial records of a well-established construction company. This position requires meticulous attention to detail and a strong understanding of accounting principles to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction industry and proficiency in relevant accounting software.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and record day-to-day financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, including the preparation of invoices, payment of bills, and reconciliation of accounts.
  • Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are properly documented and categorized.
  • Prepare and process payroll, including calculating wages, deductions, and issuing paychecks.
  • Reconcile bank statements and credit card transactions on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, for management review.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial planning.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Assist with audits and provide necessary documentation as requested.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors, clients, and internal staff to resolve any financial discrepancies or issues.
  • Support the accounting department with other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar role, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Certification such as Certified Bookkeeper (CB) or Certified Public Bookkeeper (CPB) is a plus.
