About the position
The Bookmobile Librarian is responsible for promoting the mission and values of the Greene County Public Library by providing library services and programming for children and facilities utilizing the Bookmobile. This part-time position involves planning and delivering story times, assisting patrons with finding materials, managing circulation tasks, and maintaining the Bookmobile's collection. The role requires independent problem-solving and the ability to work both supervised and unsupervised, with a focus on promoting early childhood literacy.
Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and deliver story times and programs for children and facilities using the Bookmobile.
- Assist children in finding books and other materials on the Bookmobile.
- Check out and check in materials using a computerized system; register borrowers and handle circulation questions.
- Maintain a ready supply of new library card materials.
- Evaluate and maintain the Bookmobile collection to reflect the needs of the facilities and children served.
- Make recommendations for additions to and removals from the collection.
- Prepare new library materials for circulation.
- Plan and/or prepare displays, bibliographies, and other informational materials.
- Visit schools countywide to promote library services or programs.
- Open, close, and drive the Bookmobile.
- Troubleshoot all electronic resources and equipment in the department.
- Assume 'person in charge' responsibilities in the absence of the department head.
- Assist in training employees.
- Gather statistics, prepare reports, and complete other assigned projects.
- Participate in countywide children's services and attend meetings of the Youth Services Council.
- Keep abreast of current developments in the field through conferences, workshops, and continuing education.
Requirements
- Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited school for Bookmobile Librarian II or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for Bookmobile Librarian I.
- 1-3 years of Library and/or Customer Service experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of children's literature and experience demonstrating success with groups of children preferred.
- Valid Ohio driver's license and ability to drive an RV-type vehicle safely (does not require CDL).
- Ability to lift boxes of books and materials weighing approximately 50 lbs.
