The Botanist Aide - Seasonal 2025 position at Sierra Pacific Industries involves conducting botanical surveys in various forest locations across northern and central California. Responsibilities

  • Conduct botanical surveys on Sierra Pacific Industries' forests.
  • Collect detailed field data in remote locations.
  • Navigate forest roads and terrain using digital and hard copy maps.
  • Record geologic, topographic, and habitat site characteristics.
  • Identify plant species in California flora to family, genus, and species.
  • Survey proposed timber harvest areas for rare plant species and collect supporting documentation.

Requirements

  • College coursework in botany, biology, forestry, or related natural resource field, including plant taxonomy or plant ID.
  • One season of botanical field work is desirable but not required.
  • Ability to identify plant species in the North Coast, Klamath, Cascade, Modoc, and Sierra Nevada regions.
  • Map/photo interpretation ability.
  • Prior GPS and data recorder/tablet use is desirable.
  • Valid driver license required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with plant identification in various California regions.
