About the position

The Assistant Wrestling Coaches for Mt Spokane High School will provide knowledge, motivation, and leadership to student-athletes in wrestling, fostering their physical, moral, and social development. The role involves instructing athletes on techniques and safety practices, organizing practice schedules, and ensuring compliance with school policies and procedures. Coaches will supervise athletes during practices and games, promote sportsmanship, and communicate effectively with parents and school officials.

Responsibilities

• Instruct athletes on techniques, rules, and safety practices of wrestling.
• Develop and organize practice programs and schedules.
• Supervise athletes during practices and games, ensuring their safety and well-being.
• Promote the interscholastic program and foster good sportsmanship among participants and spectators.
• Assist the athletic director in maintaining eligibility lists and required documentation for athletes.
• Communicate team rules and guidelines to parents and ensure understanding of the student-athlete handbook.
• Adhere to safety laws and district policies, including injury care and prevention procedures.
• Complete accident reports for any injuries and recognize athlete health plans.
• Provide equal opportunities to all athletes as per the nondiscrimination policy.

Requirements

• Must be 19 or older for Assistant Coach and 21 or older for Head Coach per WIAA rules.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to acquire it by the start of the season.
• Type II Driver's License preferred.
• Understanding of wrestling techniques, safety practices, and skill development progression.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous coaching experience at the Secondary level.
