About the position

The Boys Basketball Head Sophomore B Coach is responsible for assisting the head coach in organizing and managing the basketball program at Bartlett High School. This role involves conducting practices, motivating student-athletes, and instructing them in game strategies and techniques. The coach will also oversee specific program levels, ensure eligibility of participants, and maintain effective communication with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach with the organization of the basketball program.
  • Conduct practices and motivate student-athletes.
  • Instruct student-athletes in game strategies and techniques.
  • Organize and oversee specific program levels or areas of responsibility.
  • Verify that all participants are fully registered and eligible to play.
  • Develop game and practice schedules, manage facilities use, and coordinate transportation needs.
  • Communicate and plan practice sessions and competition strategies with the head coach.
  • Attend pre-season parent meetings to review eligibility requirements and team rules.
  • Manage practice and competition schedules throughout the off-season and in-season periods.
  • Maintain inventory and care for equipment associated with the program.
  • Ensure a safe facility and equipment for activities.
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, school administration, staff, and parents.
  • Establish cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork among student-athletes.
  • Model and instill values of sportsmanship and fair play.
  • Monitor students' athletic and academic eligibility and work with teachers to prioritize academics.
  • Plan and implement safe and effective daily practices and events.
  • Supervise all students during practices and contests.
  • Enforce student discipline according to the U-46 Athletic Code of Conduct.
  • Collaborate with the head coach on fundraising activities and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Provide end-of-season individual and team records and statistics to the head coach.
  • Establish positive relationships with local athletics organizations and K-8 sports programs.
  • Engage in personal professional development activities.

Requirements

  • CPR Certification
  • Teaching Certification
  • High school diploma or GED
  • First Aid Certification
  • 1 year of coaching experience
  • AED Certification

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of effective coaching theory and strategies for high school athletes
  • Proven record of emphasizing sportsmanship and academic excellence
  • Background in coaching basketball
