About the position

We are seeking a skilled California Vehicle Safety Systems Inspector to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for inspecting vehicles to ensure compliance with California's strict vehicle safety standards, including safety equipment, lighting, braking systems, tires, and other critical safety features. You will perform thorough inspections, document findings, and provide recommendations for repairs or corrective actions as needed, while maintaining excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive safety inspections on vehicles, ensuring compliance with California's vehicle safety laws and regulations.
  • Inspect and verify the proper functioning of safety components, including seat belts, airbags, anti-lock braking systems (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), tires, and lights.
  • Use diagnostic tools and manual inspections to evaluate safety systems and components.
  • Ensure that all vehicles meet California state safety inspection standards as outlined by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, documenting findings, required repairs, and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Explain inspection results to customers in a clear and professional manner.
  • Identify and recommend any repairs or modifications required to bring a vehicle into compliance with California's vehicle safety standards.
  • Ensure that all inspection tools, equipment, and technology are maintained and calibrated to meet industry standards.
  • Keep up to date with changes in California vehicle safety regulations, testing methods, and inspection procedures.
  • Work with other inspectors, technicians, and service staff to ensure efficient inspection processes.

Requirements

  • California Vehicle Safety Inspector Certification (required by the state).
  • Automotive experience with a strong understanding of vehicle safety systems, including brakes, tires, lighting, airbags, ABS, and other critical safety features.
  • Familiarity with California vehicle safety regulations and inspection procedures as outlined by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
  • Strong knowledge of diagnostic tools, equipment, and inspection techniques.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify safety-related issues quickly.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to customers.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • ASE certification (or similar) in automotive repair or inspection is a plus.
