About the position

The Branch Manager at the Stratford Branch Library is responsible for the administration, leadership, and oversight of complex library programs. This role involves establishing strategic priorities, implementing library policies, supervising staff, and engaging with the community to ensure that library services meet customer needs. The Branch Manager plays a key role in cultivating community partnerships and serves as a liaison between library administration and branch staff.

Responsibilities

  • Selects, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff.
  • Provides leadership and coordinates schedules and workflow for effective service delivery.
  • Provides for the training and motivation of staff to meet changing system demands.
  • Establishes work rules and performance standards, trains and coaches performance, and initiates disciplinary actions as warranted.
  • Communicates the Branch and HCPL vision, strategic direction, and purpose, inspiring others to share the vision.
  • Cultivates a service-oriented approach dedicated to assisting in finding, evaluating, and using information effectively.
  • Sets priorities for the library, aligning them with HCPL goals and community needs.
  • Builds and sustains strategic partnerships with the community and local government.
  • Actively engages with, manages, plans, and directs branch library services and programs.
  • Analyzes branch needs and recommends or implements methods for improving services and outreach.
  • Oversees collections designed to meet the informational needs of local communities.
  • Responds to and resolves citizen inquiries and complaints.
  • Explains and administers library policies and procedures.
  • Performs general librarian duties as needed.
  • Works effectively with the Library Friends group and cultivates strategic community partnerships.
  • Develops and manages the branch's budget and planned expenditures.
  • Prepares and submits reports and analyzes branch activities and statistics.
  • Promotes teamwork and cooperation through productive interactions with colleagues.
  • Attends staff and administrative meetings and serves on committees.
  • Maintains a safe and efficient library and monitors physical facilities.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Library and Information Studies or related field from an accredited university or college.
  • Three (3) years of full-time library experience in community engagement, collection development, budgeting, and program management.
  • Two (2) years of full-time supervisory responsibilities overseeing employees and managing resources.
  • OR Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, plus five (5) years of full-time library experience and four (4) years of supervisory responsibilities.
