About the position

The Branch Operations Support (Human Services Specialist 1) position at the Oregon Department of Human Services involves providing essential support to Oregonians seeking assistance with various social services programs. This role emphasizes customer service, communication, and collaboration within a diverse team to help individuals access resources and navigate the application process for benefits such as food assistance, cash support, and childcare services.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Oregonians applying for medical, cash for families (TANF), domestic violence services, food benefits (SNAP), childcare assistance (ERDC), and long-term care services.
  • Answer inquiries regarding case status and provide information on accessing community resources via in-person, phone, and online channels.
  • Explain agency notices and benefit issuance information to applicants as requested.
  • Provide referrals and information for additional services and community resources.
  • Write clear and concise case notes summarizing information gathered from applicants and collateral sources.
  • Collaborate with team members to rotate tasks and support the office's business needs.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in interviewing to obtain personal or technical information or substantial people contact, involving a high volume of paperwork.
  • Experience providing customer service in a professional environment to a diverse customer base.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate decisions, rules, and policies to a diverse group of people.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including usage of web browsers and Microsoft programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in any language, with a preference for Spanish.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with high volumes of customer interactions.
