About the position

The Brand Marketing & PR Manager at 23rd Street Books, a division of Macmillan Publishers, is responsible for developing and executing brand strategies and promotional campaigns for graphic novels targeted at both adult and young readers. This role emphasizes building the brands of 23rd Street and First Second, ensuring they are recognized as leading names in the graphic novel market. The position requires strong organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to collaborate across various departments to enhance brand visibility and engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Generate creative and results-driven marketing campaigns for First Second and 23rd Street titles, authors, and series.
  • Manage and monitor both imprints' website and social media platforms, developing engaging content to grow audiences organically.
  • Develop creative email marketing campaigns and build community through monthly brand-specific newsletters.
  • Grow brand visibility through media coverage across print, radio, and online, responding to cultural trends and promoting books and creators proactively.
  • Plan and orchestrate appearances at conventions such as SDCC, NYCC, and TCAF to enhance brand awareness and generate sales.
  • Collaborate with Design, Editorial, Macmillan Marketing, Publicity, and Sales to align with overall publishing strategy.

Requirements

  • Experience in comics, trade publishing, and/or entertainment media.
  • Experience in book marketing, social media, marketing and/or publicity is a plus but not required.
  • Creative approach to social media and strong understanding of digital analytics.
  • Basic graphic design skills and HTML experience are helpful.
  • Event and conference planning experience is ideal.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to learn new programs.
  • Strategy-oriented with the ability to think creatively.
  • A love of graphic novels is essential.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in publishing or media or related field preferred but not required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
