About The Position
The Breaking News and General Assignment Reporter will produce a high volume of engaging, quick-turnaround content for The Gazette. The focus will be on breaking news that helps drive readership and engagement. Our breaking news reporter will have basic reporting and writing skills, but also the ability to shoot and edit videos and photos and record and edit audio. The reporter also may be assigned or produce enterprise and other general assignment content. This position will work independently while being a part of a team of skilled journalists. The work hours include nights and weekends, and the role requires a proactive approach to news coverage, ensuring timely and accurate reporting on events as they unfold. The reporter will be expected to convey news and tell stories using multiple tools, including writing, social media, photos, and video, while also attending editorial meetings to suggest story ideas and participate in discussions. This position is crucial for maintaining the newspaper's reputation for breaking news coverage in the Colorado Springs area and beyond.
