About the position

The Denver Post is seeking a part-time Breaking News intern to work on the City Desk in the fall of 2024. This internship is designed to provide aspiring journalists with hands-on experience in a dynamic newsroom environment. As the No. 1 newsroom in the Rocky Mountain region, The Denver Post is committed to shaping the next generation of journalists by offering a 10-week internship that emphasizes diversity in both news coverage and staffing. The intern will have the opportunity to report on breaking news, covering a variety of topics including crime and natural disasters, and will contribute to both online and print publications. Interns will be expected to seek out and report news for immediate publication on the Post's digital platforms or for print. This role involves discussing story formulation with editors, editing or rewriting stories as necessary, and interacting with colleagues and sources in a professional manner. The intern will also be responsible for developing sources and building relationships, as well as contributing to pitching story ideas. This position is ideal for students who have a passion for journalism and are eager to learn in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities

  • Report on breaking news, covering crime, natural disasters, and more for online and print.

Requirements

  • Applicants should have completed junior year of college before summer 2024.
  • Demonstrated interest in print and online journalism.
  • Well-versed in basic news writing and AP style.
  • Ability to multi-task and work quickly to meet deadlines.
  • Previous internship at a daily paper is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
